Assam Transport Minister Orders Probe After Tragic Dergaon Accident

Guwahati, 3rd Jan: Assam Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road accident in Balijan, Dergaon, which claimed the lives of 11 individuals on January 2. The minister promptly ordered an investigation into the incident and offered condolences to the families affected by the tragedy.

Taking to the platform X, Suklabaidya shared his shock and condolences, stating, “Deeply shocked to learn about the tragic road accident in Balijan today morning which has taken 10 precious lives & injuring many! My deepest condolences to the families of the bereaved. I pray to almighty for the speedy recovery of the injured ones.”

The minister assured full financial assistance to the families of the deceased and pledged comprehensive medical support for the injured. He also vowed to hold accountable those responsible for the accident, emphasizing that the main culprit would face punishment. Additionally, Suklabaidya mentioned plans to file a complaint against the road contractor, attributing the incident to the alleged poor construction of the ill-fated route.

The tragic collision occurred around 5 am on NH 37, involving a mini-bus carrying picnickers en route to Tinsukia’s Tilinga Mandir. The injured passengers have been shifted to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Investigations will seek to uncover the circumstances leading to the accident and address potential issues related to road safety and construction.
