Northeast Desk, 4th Jan: In the prestigious One District One Product (ODOP) Awards held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, Sikkim proudly clinched the Second Runner-up position. The event, organized by the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), witnessed the inauguration by Dr. S. Jaishankar, Hon’ble Minister of External Affairs, Government of India, alongside Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce and Industry.
Shri Karma R Bonpo IAS, Secretary, Commerce and Industries, received the esteemed award on behalf of the state. This recognition reflects the success of Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Golay’s vision of “One Family One Entrepreneur.” Sikkim’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship is evident through initiatives like the Skilled Youth Startup Scheme, providing subsidized loans and training to promote local ODOP products.
Under the leadership of the Department of Commerce and Industry, Sikkim has actively branded and marketed its products, creating an ecosystem for local products to flourish in both domestic and international markets. Future endeavors include the launch of new initiatives under the World Bank-funded Sikkim Inspires Project.
The ODOP initiative, aligned with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for Aatmanirbhar Bharat, seeks to drive socio-economic development across all districts of the country. By selecting, branding, and promoting one product from each district, the initiative aims to address challenges throughout the supply chain, enhance market accessibility, and tap into export potential.
The DPIIT’s ODOP Awards recognize outstanding achievements at the district, state/UT, and international levels, acknowledging individuals and entities contributing to economic development through the ODOP approach.
