Assam CM Urges Voters in North Cachar Hills to Participate in Autonomous Council Elections
Guwahati, 8th January: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has encouraged all voters in the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, now known as the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, to exercise their franchise in the ongoing elections.
The 13th council elections witness 87 candidates competing for 22 seats, with the BJP already securing 6 uncontested.
Political parties represented include BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and independent candidates. The electorate of 1,41,124 voters, split evenly between genders, is expected to cast their votes with a public holiday declared in Dima Hasao for the elections.
Polling officials and security personnel aim for peaceful voting and substantial turnout, with vote counting scheduled for January 12th.
The outcome will significantly influence the future governance of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council.
