Mizoram: Assam Rifles Seize Narcotics Worth Crores, Two Held
Northeast Desk, 12th January: In the ongoing efforts against drug trafficking, Assam Rifles (East) achieved significant successes in Mizoram. In the Bualpui area of Siaha district, troops recovered 225 grams of Heroin No. 4 valued at Rs 1,75,00,000 and apprehended two individuals. Additionally, in the Zokhawthar-Melbuk road area of Champhai district, they seized 20 packets of Methamphetamine tablets weighing 22.220 kg, worth Rs 66,66,00,000, and arrested one person.
Acting on precise intelligence about narcotics movement, Assam Rifles conducted the operations, ensuring the confiscated items and detained individuals were handed over to the respective Excise and Narcotics departments in Siaha and Champhai for further legal proceedings.
In a preceding operation on January 10, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Police and Custom Preventive Force, executed two separate actions in Champhai district on January 8. The operations resulted in the seizure of 139 grams of Heroin worth Rs 97.30 lakh and 20 cases of foreign-origin cigarettes valued at Rs 26 lakh.
A joint team, comprising Assam Rifles from Zokhawthar and Champhai, along with the Customs Preventive Force, carried out the operations based on specific information. The combined efforts led to the confiscation of the entire consignment, totaling Rs 1,23,30,000 in value, at the general areas of Crossing Point I, Zokhawthar, and Jail Veng, Champhai.
The continuous actions by security forces underscore their commitment to curbing the menace of drug trafficking in the region.
