NHAI Implements ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ Initiative for Efficient Toll Collection

National Desk, 15th January: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative to streamline traffic and reduce congestion at toll plazas. This move aims to enhance the efficiency of the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system, ensuring seamless movement for vehicles.

Under this initiative, NHAI discourages the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to one vehicle. The goal is to ensure compliance with the ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). FASTag users are urged to complete the KYC process by January 31, 2024, to avoid deactivation or blacklisting of FASTags with valid balances but incomplete KYC.

NHAI emphasizes that users should discard any previously issued FASTags and only retain the latest one. After the specified date, only the latest FASTag will remain active. Users can seek assistance from toll plazas or contact their respective banks’ toll-free customer service for support.

This initiative addresses concerns such as the issuance of multiple FASTags for a single vehicle, FASTag issuance without proper KYC, and incorrect affixing of FASTags on vehicle windscreens. NHAI aims to eliminate these issues to ensure a smoother toll collection process and reduce inconvenience for National Highway users.

With a penetration rate of around 98 percent and over 80 million users, FASTag has significantly improved the Electronic Toll Collection system in India. The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative is expected to further optimize toll operations, providing a more efficient experience for National Highway users.
