Former Assam Youth Congress Leader Protests Unjust Expulsion Ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s Yatra

Guwahati, 18th January: Former Assam Youth Congress leader Angkita Dutta has taken a stand against perceived injustice within the party.

Dutta, once at the helm of the Assam Youth Congress, faced expulsion from the primary membership for six years on allegations of “anti-party activities.”

Addressing the media in Amguri, Angkita Dutta expressed hope for justice, stating, “Today, as a daughter of the state, along with scores of Congress workers, I hope to get justice. My family stands with me… I spoke against Srinivas BV, who mentally disturbed me. When I didn’t receive an appropriate answer, I was expelled from the party… I’ve been in exile for the past 10 months, haven’t joined any party, and believe that today I will get justice.”

Dutta emphasized that a memorandum would be handed over to Rahul Gandhi.

Scores of Congress grassroots-level workers gathered in Amguri in support of Angkita Dutta, protesting her expulsion.

This disciplinary action followed Dutta’s public accusations against Srinivas BV, the national president of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), whom she labeled as “sexist and chauvinistic.”

Dutta’s grievances extend beyond Srinivas BV to higher echelons of the party leadership. Despite informing Rahul Gandhi about harassment and gender discrimination, no inquiry was initiated. Dutta alleges months of torment, including sexist remarks, derogatory language, and threats.

The conflict reached a boiling point during a party plenary session in Raipur in February when Dutta was heckled and threatened. In response, she filed a complaint at the Dispur police station, seeking accountability.

Angkita Dutta, with a family history spanning four generations of allegiance to the Congress party, staged a protest in Amguri on January 18, demanding Rahul Gandhi address her concerns and take appropriate action.
