Women Assemble to Collect Welfare Forms, Meet Rahul Gandhi during Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam

Guwahati, 18th January: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, part of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, claimed that women in Mariani, Assam, who had gathered to collect forms for BJP government welfare schemes, spontaneously met Rahul Gandhi.

Taking to his X handle, Jairam Ramesh wrote, “Women assembled for a function organized by the Assam CM in Mariani spontaneously and enthusiastically met @RahulGandhi on Day 5 of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.”

Sources indicate that Rahul Gandhi’s bus halted at a school in Mariani, where women had assembled to collect forms for BJP government welfare schemes. These women, enthusiastic about the function, had the opportunity to meet Rahul Gandhi during his Assam leg of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

The Assam government organized the event to distribute forms for the “Lakhpati Baideo” scheme, aiming to empower 40 lakh self-help group (SHG) workers by offering Rs 35,000 financial assistance to achieve an annual income of Rs 1 lakh.

Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, initiated in Manipur on January 14, resumed its journey from Nagaland to Assam, covering approximately 1.5 kilometers in Nagaland and reaching the Assam border. The Yatra, covering 833 km in Assam, is set to conclude in the state on January 25, 2024.

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership has focused on financial and administrative improvements over the past decade, emphasizing women’s empowerment, social justice, and political representation in Assam’s dynamic political landscape. The spontaneous meeting between women at the CM’s event and Rahul Gandhi underscores these ongoing discussions.
