Assam: Protest Mars Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ Entry into state

Guwahati, 18th January: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Assam on the fifth day of the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ encountered protests led by ousted Youth Congress leader Angkita Dutta at the Amguri intersection. The yatra, traversing from Manipur to East to West, commenced on January 14 and entered Assam on January 18, beginning from Tuli in Nagaland and reaching Hulongting on the Assam-Nagaland border.

Rahul Gandhi embarked on Assam as part of his mission to connect with the people through the Nyay Yatra. Simultaneously, former Congress leader Angkita Dutta, recently expelled from the party, organized a protest anticipating the yatra’s route. Hundreds joined Dutta, displaying banners and posters in Amguri and Hulongting, questioning if women would receive justice under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership.

Posters were set up near Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Hulongting, prompting speeches from state Congress president Bhupen Bora and Debabrata Saikia, followed by Rahul’s brief address to a gathering of around 1300 people. Notably, workers covered Angkita Dutta’s posters at the venue.

The protests and Dutta’s posters led Rahul Gandhi to cancel several pre-planned programs, altering the route to Mariani to avoid her demonstration in Amguri town. The unexpected change sparked anger among the people of Amguri.
