Assam Government Initiates Distribution of New Ration Cards for Food Security
Guwahati, January 20, 2024: The Government of Assam, through the Department of Food, Public Distribution, and Consumer Affairs, has launched the distribution of new ration cards to enhance food security across the state. Initiated on January 16, the distribution will continue until January 25, covering each new Legislative Assembly constituency.
Key Highlights:
- Distribution Process: Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, and other dignitaries will distribute the new ration cards. The distribution is scheduled on designated days in various constituencies, aiming for completion by January 25.
- Benefits of Ration Card: Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cardholders will receive 35 kg of free rice per month, while each member of Priority Household (PHH) will receive 5 kg of free rice per month. These benefits will be effective from January 2024.
- Additional Benefits: Ration cardholders will have access to free medical services up to ₹25 lakh per annum through the Ayushman Card under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Ayushman Assam Mukhya Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Those without LPG connections will receive free connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).
- Schedule of Distribution: The distribution is meticulously organized, with Cabinet Ministers and officials overseeing the process. A specific schedule, including dates and times for each Legislative Assembly Constituency, has been outlined.

The distribution aims to ensure that the benefits of government schemes reach every household, contributing to enhanced food security for those in need.
