Congress Leader Jairam Ramesh Reacts to Rahul Gandhi’s Denied Visit: Alleges Orchestrated Move

Guwahati, 22nd January: Amid the ongoing dispute over Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Batadrava Than, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to X, stating ‘Chronology Samajhiye’ (Understand the Chronology). Ramesh outlined a sequence of events, claiming that the head of the shrine initially welcomed Gandhi’s visit, but the Assam Chief Minister later restricted it to after 3 pm, coinciding with the Pran Pratishtha day of Lord Ram in Ayodhya.

In a detailed X post on January 11, 2024, Ramesh highlighted the Congress’s initial communication with the shrine’s authorities and the subsequent shift in permissions. He alleged that the Management Committee of Bordowa Than was pressured by the Assam CM, acting under instructions from Delhi, resulting in the denial of Rahul Gandhi’s morning visit.

The situation intensified when, after negotiations on January 22 morning, only the local MP and MLA were allowed to visit, prompting criticism from Ramesh. He argued that elected representatives should have the freedom to move about in their constituencies without restrictions.

Rahul Gandhi, upon his arrival at Batadrava Than, questioned the denial, rhetorically asking what crime he had committed to be barred from the temple. The Congress perceived this as an orchestrated move to prevent their leader from visiting the shrine, leading to protests by party workers. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, aimed at uniting the country and addressing justice issues, particularly during its Assam leg.
