Assam: First Poaching Incident of 2024; Rhino Carcass Found at Kaziranga

Guwahati, 22nd January: In the first reported incident of the year, a female rhino was poached at Kaziranga National Park in Assam. The carcass was discovered near the Maklung forest camp within the Agoratoli Forest Range.

Poachers killed the rhino and removed its horn. It is suspected that the perpetrators illegally crossed the Brahmaputra River to enter the national park.

The incident is believed to have occurred on Sunday evening, with forest officials finding the body during a routine patrol on Monday morning.

Senior officers from the Assam Forest Department have arrived at the scene to investigate, and an operation to apprehend the poachers is currently underway.
