Assam Police Thwart Cattle Smuggling Operation Along Assam-Bengal Border

Guwahati, 31st January: Assam Police showcase vigilance at the Assam-Bengal border, intercepting a cattle smuggling operation in Gosaingaon. A container truck, bearing registration number NL 01 AB 1285, was seized, and 25 cows were rescued. Four individuals involved in the smuggling, identified as Raheem Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Saripul Islam, and Mohidul Islam, have been apprehended. The cows were allegedly transported from West Bengal to Baghbar in Barpeta.

This follows a recent incident on January 29, where an angry mob lynched four individuals in Assam’s Nalbari district, suspecting them to be cattle lifters. The police rescued the injured individuals, admitted them to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, and initiated a probe into the incident. One injured person is reported to be from Katpuhar, and the other three are from Raimadhar.
