Meghalaya CM Launches 207 Waste Collection e-Vehicles for Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen)
Northeast Desk, 1st February: In a significant move towards achieving the goals of Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma handed over 207 Waste Collection e-Vehicles to blocks in East Jaintia Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, East Khasi Hills, and West Jaintia Hills.
The ceremony, attended by key officials including Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, marked a milestone in Meghalaya’s commitment to cleanliness, reinforcing the state’s rapid progress in achieving an impressive 84.33% in ODF Plus within nine months.
Chief Minister Sangma emphasized the government’s dedication and collaboration with citizens, highlighting the importance of community participation in creating a visible difference.
The event also unveiled plans for a quarterly cleaning initiative, promoting cultural and traditional values of cleanliness for a healthier future.
Minister Marcuise M Marak outlined ambitious goals for 2024-2025, aiming for 100% ODF Plus, widespread installation of household latrines, establishment of community sanitary complexes, and implementation of fecal sludge management units, demonstrating the state’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
