Northeast Desk, 2nd February: Hundreds of people on Thursday organized a road blockade in the Dirak Gate area to express their dissatisfaction over the reported death of a laborer due to severe beating in Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai district.

According to Namsai Superintendent of Police Sange Thinley, the victim identified as 60-year-old Sab Taye was allegedly assaulted by three fellow workers at a construction site where they all collaborated.

Sab Taye, a resident of New Silatoo village in the district, succumbed to his injuries, leading to the registration of a case, and subsequent arrest of the three accused laborers.

Thinley revealed that during the interrogation, the accused claimed they had assaulted Taye after catching him stealing a drilling machine and other items from the construction site.

In response to the incident, on Thursday morning, people from various walks of life gathered for a dharna, staging a road blockade to protest against the laborer’s death.

Their demands included the arrest of a contractor responsible for engaging the laborers in the construction work.

Later in the day, the road blockade was lifted, according to Thingley, who added that the situation remains tense but is under control.
