Meghalaya Cabinet Approves Amendments to Telecom Infrastructure Policy
Northeast Desk, 3rd February: The Meghalaya cabinet has given its approval for amendments to the Meghalaya Telecom Infrastructure Policy (MTIP), originally instituted in 2018. Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong announced the decision, highlighting that the amendments aim to align the state policy with changes at the national level since its inception.
The MTIP serves as a guiding document for the application and approval processes related to the installation of mobile towers within the state. The recent amendments seek to further streamline these processes, ensuring consistency between the state’s telecom infrastructure policy and the national policy set by the Government of India.
In addition to the MTIP amendment, the cabinet approved the Meghalaya Forest Subordinate Technical Service Rules, 2024. These rules are crucial as they establish service regulations for the Forest Department, providing necessary guidelines that were previously absent.
The cabinet also greenlit a new initiative called the ‘Meghalaya Program for Adolescent Wellbeing Empowerment and Resilience (MPoWER)’. Under this initiative, the Government has formed the ‘Human Development Council,’ headed by the Chief Minister. The Chief Secretary serves as the Chairman of the Project Steering Committee, and District Commissioners (DCs) lead the Executive Committees for implementing the program.
The decision to amend the MTIP underscores Meghalaya’s commitment to enhancing its telecommunications infrastructure, essential for the state’s development and alignment with national standards. These amendments are anticipated to facilitate improved connectivity and technological advancements in Meghalaya.
