Resumption of Jiribam-Khongsang Train Services Brings Hope to Manipur

Northeast Desk, 3rd February: After a hiatus since May 4, 2023, Manipur is set to witness the revival of passenger train services between Jiribam and Khongsang, spanning a distance of approximately 55 kilometers. The announcement of the resumption starting from February 7, 2024, comes as a relief for residents who endured the suspension due to ethnic violence that erupted on May 3, 2023.

The final inspection for the resumption was conducted by a dedicated railway team, led by Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS) Janak Kumar Garg, on February 2. Beginning their journey from Jiribam railway station, the team made a crucial stop at Vangaichungpao en route to Khongsang, thoroughly examining the railway lines.

Amidst anticipation, a 14-bogey train embarked on its journey from Jiribam, reaching the Khongsang railway station in the Noney district of Manipur. The station manager, Sinreap Gangmei, warmly welcomed the railway team, symbolizing the return to normalcy and connectivity for the region.

In another development, the Ministry of Railways has announced a special train service, set to depart on February 7, facilitating pilgrimages and connecting the people of Manipur to Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. This resumption marks a significant step toward reinstating essential services and promoting connectivity in the region.
