Assam: Alleged ULFA-I Spy claims Lakhimpur bodybuilder’s 2023 accident a pre-planned murder

Guwahati, 6th February: In a shocking revelation, alleged Sub Inspector of the Assam Police, Manash Borgohain, detained at a United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) camp, has confessed to the pre-planned murder of renowned bodybuilder Siddhartha Borgohain. The incident, initially reported as an accident due to heavy fog in Assam’s Lakhimpur district on January 3, 2023, was claimed to be orchestrated by Manash Chaliha, according to Manash Borgohain’s statement.

Manash Borgohain, purportedly dispatched by Assam police for espionage within ULFA-I ranks, disclosed in a recent video that Siddhartha’s demise was not accidental but a result of a calculated scheme by Manash Chaliha. Allegedly, Chaliha had engaged in a business deal with Siddhartha and later demanded a refund of Rs 35 lakhs, leading to a heated altercation. Borgohain asserted that the altercation ended with Chaliha threatening Siddhartha, ultimately culminating in his death, portrayed as an accident.

The video further details Chaliha’s purported modus operandi, involving the exploitation of fake ULFA-I Facebook accounts to extort money and trap unsuspecting youths. Borgohain accused Chaliha of presenting himself as a “piggy bank,” deceiving individuals with promises of employment and affiliations with ULFA-I. Moreover, Borgohain claimed that Chaliha’s connections with top officials and ministers granted him impunity, allowing him to evade justice despite his alleged criminal activities.

The confession comes in the wake of ULFA-I’s release of a video announcing the arrest of Manash Borgohain, also known as Mukut Axom, for violating the outfit’s Constitution. In his own video message, Mukut Axom admitted to being a spy deployed by Assam state authorities to monitor ULFA-I’s operations, shedding light on his involvement with the Special Branch of Assam Police since 2021. The revelation adds a new dimension to the ongoing intrigue surrounding ULFA-I and its alleged collusion with state authorities.
