IMD Issues Rainfall Warnings over Arunachal and Sikkim starting February 8

Northeast Desk, 8th February: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rainfall warnings for various states and union territories in the coming days.

On February 9, rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and parts of West Bengal. Additionally, Odisha is likely to experience rainfall on February 8, 11, and 12.

From February 10 to 14, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh are forecasted to receive rainfall.

In a recent forecast on February 8, 2024, the IMD predicted a spell of fairly widespread rain and snow over Arunachal Pradesh. This weather pattern is attributed to a trough in the westerlies, affecting Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya. The precipitation is anticipated to persist for several days, with isolated rain also possible over Assam.

Arunachal Pradesh, renowned for its diverse climatic conditions, typically encounters heavy rainfall from May to September, with average temperatures ranging between 22°C to 30°C during the monsoon season. March witnesses milder weather, with temperatures hovering between 14°C to 22°C, making it an ideal time to visit. However, as of January, Arunachal had received only 7.7 mm of precipitation, indicating insufficient rainfall and snowfall for that period.

Moreover, the IMD has forecasted light rainfall across north peninsular India from February 9-11, with isolated to scattered light rainfall expected until February 12. Additionally, strong surface winds of 20-30 kmph were anticipated on February 8 across the Indo-Gangetic Plains.
