Assam CM Criticizes Rahul Gandhi’s Visit to state on Ram Temple Consecration Day
Guwahati, 9th February: Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, voiced disapproval of Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Assam on January 22, coinciding with the auspicious day of the Ram temple consecration ceremony. Sarma emphasized that while Rahul Gandhi observed a “glimpse of good governance” in Assam, his choice to visit the religiously sensitive district of Nagaon on such a significant day was poorly timed and inappropriate.
Sarma pointed out that Gandhi’s refusal of the invitation to the Ram temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya, coupled with his visit to Assam on the same day, raised questions about his actions. “On a day when the Ram Temple consecration ceremony is underway and around 5000 people are witnessing it, Rahul Gandhi visits a satra where he had declined the invitation to the Ayodhya event. How can this be justified?” questioned Sarma.
Underlining the religious sensitivity of the district and the potential for conflict, Sarma suggested that Gandhi should have reconsidered his visit, especially on such a significant day. “Rahul Gandhi should have refrained from visiting Assam on January 22, or at least considered avoiding it on February 22, given the situation in Assam,” remarked Sarma.
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the state’s strength on that day, implying that the visit could have sparked conflict if not for the firm governance in place. “We demonstrated strong and effective governance… the next time he visits, we will exhibit even stronger and better governance,” said Sarma.
