Manipur Legislative Assembly to Convene Fifth Session on February 28

Northeast Desk, 9th February: The 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly is scheduled to commence its fifth session on February 28, playing a pivotal role in shaping the state’s legislative landscape. Comprising 60 directly elected members from single-seat constituencies, this assembly holds significant influence over Manipur’s governance.

Currently led by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds power in Manipur, with Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi serving as the party president.

The decision to convene the fifth session stems from the necessity to adhere to procedural timelines, as the last sitting adjourned sine die on August 29, 2023. As it marks the first sitting of the year and involves the Governor’s address, the cabinet resolved to commence the session on February 28.

In a separate development, the cabinet approved an increase in allowances for the Manipur Police Commando and other state forces deployed in vulnerable areas. Effective immediately, the allowance for Manipur Police Commando personnel will witness a Rs 5000 increment. Similarly, other state forces stationed in vulnerable regions will receive a Rs 3000 allowance increment.
