Manipur Cabinet Extends Engagement of Village Defence Forces
Northeast Desk, 9th February: Recognizing the invaluable contribution of the Village Defence Forces (VDFs) in the state, the Manipur Cabinet has unanimously agreed to extend their engagement for an additional year of service. The extension will be effective from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, providing continuity in their vital role in safeguarding communities.
State Minister Dr. S. Ranjan Singh, addressing the press, emphasized the significance of this decision, underscoring the continued commitment of the government to prioritize the security and welfare of its citizens.
Additionally, Minister Ranjan informed that the Cabinet has passed the Manipur State Commission for Women’s Rule 2024, further demonstrating the government’s dedication to promoting gender equality and empowering women across the state.
In response to the tragic loss of the SDPO, Moreh, the Minister announced that the Cabinet has approved the appointment of his son to the position of Assistant Sub-Inspector, ensuring continuity in service and support for the family of the deceased. Furthermore, liberalized pension benefits from the Home Department have been sanctioned for the family, providing financial assistance during this challenging time.
In another significant decision aimed at addressing the ongoing crisis affecting farmers in the state, Minister Ranjan revealed that after thorough scrutiny by the Agriculture and Home Departments, the State Cabinet has approved the sanction of Rs. 18.91 crores. This funding will benefit 3483 verified affected farmers, offering much-needed relief and support to mitigate the challenges they face.
