Guwahati, 10th February: Authorities in Dhubri’s Golakganj on February 10 apprehended Mahafizul Haque, also known as Madhur, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Uchita Village.
The victim, a young girl who ventured into the fields on February 8 morning to operate a water pump, found herself in a terrifying situation. Isolated and vulnerable, she attracted the attention of Mahafizul Haque, who reportedly silenced her cries and forcibly took her to a nearby spot where the assault took place.
Later that evening, the traumatized child returned home and disclosed the incident to her parents. In response, the victim’s family filed an FIR at the Golakganj police station, leading to the arrest of Mahafizul Haque, son of Abdul Jalil, a resident of Uchita village under Golakganj PS in Dhubri.
A case has been registered under Golakganj PS Case No. 21/2024, citing section 4(2) of the POCSO Act. Women Sub-inspector (P) Papori Nath has been assigned to investigate this distressing case.
