Karnataka: Pre-Wedding Photoshoot in Hospital Operation Theatre Sparks Controversy

National Desk, 10th February: A pre-wedding photoshoot conducted inside an operation theatre at a hospital in Chitradurga, Karnataka, has ignited a controversy. Dr. Abhishek, a contract-based physician at the district hospital in the Bharamasagar area, organized his pre-wedding photoshoot within the confines of a government-run hospital.

In the video footage, Dr. Abhishek is depicted ‘performing’ a surgery on a patient, with his partner assisting him. The theme of the pre-wedding photoshoot centered around medical procedures, culminating in the ‘patient’ sitting up post-operation. Several individuals with cameras and lights were present in the operation theatre to capture the pre-wedding video.

Following the viral circulation of the video on social media, stirring public outcry, Karnataka’s Health Minister, Dinesh Gundu Rao, ordered the dismissal of Dr. Abhishek from his service. In a statement, Rao emphasized the core purpose of government hospitals for providing healthcare services to the public, condemning the use of hospital premises for personal endeavors.

Rao reiterated the importance of adherence to government service rules by all contract employees, including doctors and staff within the health department. He urged for diligence among healthcare professionals to uphold the sanctity of government healthcare facilities, underscoring their pivotal role in catering to the healthcare needs of the populace.
