Guwahati, 13th February: The speculation and curiosity surrounding Assam’s state fruit have finally been put to rest by Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, who officially declared Assam Lemon as the esteemed title holder. The announcement, made on the floor of the House, marks a significant moment in Assamese identity.
The decision to honor Assam Lemon as the state fruit garnered both intrigue and approval. With 15.90 hectares of land dedicated to Assam Lemon cultivation in the state, its role in Assam’s agriculture is undeniable. Furthermore, the revelation that a substantial quantity of Assam Lemon, totaling 70,000, is exported abroad underscores its economic significance beyond domestic consumption.
