Manipur CM N. Biren Singh Inaugurates Alternate Housing Complex at National Games Village in Langol

Northeast Desk, 15th February: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh today officially inaugurated the Alternate Housing Complex situated at National Games Village, Langol. The inauguration ceremony was orchestrated by the Manipur Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD).

Implemented by the Planning and Development Authority, Manipur, the housing complex stands as a testament to progress, constructed at an approximate cost of Rs. 58 crores. Funding for the project was secured through collaboration between the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd (HUDCO) and the State Government.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh emphasized the state’s resilience amidst challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the strides made in development. He stressed the imperative of surmounting obstacles to sustain the momentum of progress.

Singh underscored the completion of the housing complex within two years, emphasizing the role of public cooperation in facilitating development initiatives. Additionally, he disclosed plans for similar projects in identified areas along foothills, optimizing unused agricultural land for developmental purposes.

Expressing concern over environmental degradation, Singh urged against encroachment on reserved forest areas, emphasizing the importance of preserving natural resources.

The Chief Minister also unveiled plans for additional infrastructure, including a new view tower at Langol Hills and the integration of existing view towers with the Recreation Centre via cable car, enhancing tourist attractions in the region.

In his welcome address, Commissioner of MAHUD, M. Joy Singh, outlined the specifications of the Alternate Housing Complex, spanning an area of 2.16 acres. Constructed using Light Gauge Steel Frame (LGSF) technology, the buildings offer structural resilience suitable for seismic zones like Manipur.

The housing complex comprises five blocks, accommodating a total of 180 dwelling units, offering modern amenities in a sustainable framework.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of dignitaries including Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Thongam Biswajit, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Education Minister Th. Basantakumar Singh, and various MLAs, senior government officials, and representatives from HUDCO and Nipani Infra & Industries Pvt. Ltd (NIIPL).

Subsequently, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh conducted an inspection of the rejuvenation efforts at Lamphelpat waterbody, reaffirming the government’s commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable development.
