Designed to meet international standards, these venues, including the newly inaugurated High-Performance Sports Training and Rehabilitation Centre at the Sarusajai Sports Complex, are poised to host over 3,500 top athletes from 200 universities.
Bokul Kalita, Estate Office of the Sports Authority of Assam, emphasized the caliber of venues, citing past events like the FIFA Under-17 World Cup games and the AIBA Women’s Youth World Championships held at the Sarusajai Sports Complex. The Chachal Tennis Complex, known for hosting ITF events, and the exclusive shooting range at Kahilipara further add to the array of high-quality venues across the city and state.
Shhaurya Sarma, a former athlete and Deputy Secretary of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, hailed the launch of High-Performance Sports Training and Rehabilitation Centres across Assam as a game-changer for athletes. These centers, inaugurated by Hon’ble CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, aim to nurture youth talent and elevate Assam’s sporting prowess.
Additionally, initiatives like Khel Maharan, aimed at fostering sports spirit and unity, have witnessed widespread participation, with close to 50 lakh sports enthusiasts across all age groups and skill levels. Organized across four stages, from grassroots to the grand state-level event, Khel Maharan aims to identify and nurture talent for future sporting endeavors.
Looking ahead, Kalita expressed optimism about Assam’s growing prominence in sports, citing a doubling in the state’s medal count at the National Games within a year. With a strong focus on infrastructure development, talent identification, and grassroots engagement, Assam is poised to emerge as a powerhouse in the sporting arena.
