Assam: Poacher Arrested with Ivory in Tamulpur District
Guwahati, 17th February: In a collaborative effort between the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCC), SSB, and Tamulpur Range, a successful operation led to the arrest of a poacher in Assam’s Tamulpur district on February 16.
The operation was conducted in the Pub-Kachukata locality of Tamulpur, resulting in the apprehension of Rinku Kakati (33), a resident of Pub-Kachukata. Kakati was found in possession of ivory weighing approximately 3.731 kg.
Following his arrest, the accused was taken into custody by the Tamulpur Range authorities. A case has been registered against Kakati under the Wildlife Protection Act, and further investigation into the matter is underway. Such collaborative efforts are crucial in combatting wildlife crimes and preserving the region’s biodiversity.
