Assam: Unauthorized Activities Detected in NSA Cell at Dibrugarh Jail
Guwahati, 17th February: An alarming revelation has emerged regarding unauthorized activities detected in the National Security Act (NSA) cell at Dibrugarh Jail, Assam. Prompt action was taken upon receiving information about these activities, leading to the installation of additional CCTV cameras in the public area of the NSA Block.
Subsequent inputs confirmed the presence of unauthorized activities, prompting jail staff to conduct a search operation in the premises of the NSA Cell early this morning. The search resulted in the recovery of numerous unauthorized items, including a smartphone with SIM, a keypad phone, a TV remote with a keyboard, a spy-cam pen, pen drives, Bluetooth headphones & speakers, and a smartwatch. All recovered items were lawfully seized by the jail staff.
Investigations are underway to determine the source of these unauthorized items and the method of their induction into the cell. Lawful action is being pursued, and measures are being implemented to prevent such instances in the future.
Taking to the X handle, GP Singh provided an update on the situation, highlighting the installation of additional CCTV cameras and the recovery of unauthorized items by jail staff. The source of these items and their mode of induction are being ascertained, with further lawful action being pursued to address the issue and prevent recurrence.
Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam houses a cell for prisoners booked under the NSA, including a solitary cell for Amritpal Singh, situated away from his aides. The jail employs a multi-tier security system, including 24-hour three-tier security, CCTV cameras, and coordination between state and central authorities to ensure the safety and security of inmates and prevent unauthorized activities.
