Manipur: Security Forces Conduct Extensive Search Operations, Recover Arms and Ammunition

Northeast Desk, 18th February: In an extensive operation aimed at securing vulnerable areas, security forces conducted search operations in the fringe regions of hill and valley districts, resulting in a significant haul of arms and ammunition.

During the sweep in Thoubal District, the following items were recovered:

  • 01 81 mm Improvised Mortar
  • 01 Single Barrel Rifle
  • 01 36 HE Hand Grenade
  • 02 Hand Grenade No. 90 MK-3
  • 01 38 mm Anti-Riot Rubber Bullet
  • 02 Tear Smoke Shell Soft Nose
  • 01 2 Inch Mortar Shell with case
  • 02 40 mm Lathode Bomb
  • 02 7.62 mm ammunitions
  • 05 5.56 mm Blank Cartridge
  • 01 SLR magazine
  • 01 Improvised Exploded Shell

Earlier on February 17, search operations and area domination yielded a massive cache of arms and ammunition.

As per sources, the operation recovered the following items on February 15:

  • One SLR with magazine
  • One 9mm pistol
  • Two numbers of 36 hand grenades
  • Ten 7.62 mm rounds from Koubru ridge near Boljang of Kangpokpi district.

Additionally, the following items were recovered from the general area of North Changoubung, Kangpokpi district:

  • One carbine machine gun with magazine
  • One 7.62 SLR magazine
  • One 36 hand grenade
  • One wood-piercing shell
  • One locally made pumpi

Furthermore, the following items were recovered from Haijang forest area in Churachandpur district:

  • Three single barrels
  • 7.62 country-made rifle
  • One tear gas launcher along with one full ammunition box containing 24 rubber bullets (cartridge 38mm Anti-Riot)
  • One AK 47 with one magazine and three live rounds
  • Four 9mm pistols with four magazines and ten 9mm ammunition.

In response to violent mobs vandalizing and arsoning government properties at Churachandpur, security forces used legal force. During the incident, two persons succumbed to injuries, while 14 persons sustained injuries. Additionally, two personnel of security forces were injured in the said incident.
