Manipur: Couple arrested, contraband drugs worth Rs. 15 crore seized from Moreh in Imphal
Northeast Desk, 26th February: A joint operation conducted by Manipur Police and Central Forces resulted in the arrest of a couple and the seizure of a massive quantity of contraband drugs from Homeguard Veng, Moreh in Imphal on Friday around 4:30 pm.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rafique Kutti (49 yrs) and his wife Zeenat (52 yrs) of Moreh, Tengnoupal District.
Security Forces cordoned off the suspected house of the arrested couple and conducted a thorough search, leading to the discovery and seizure of substantial narcotics and contraband items from their possession.
The recovered items include WIY Tablets – 29.799 kg, Heroin Powder – 0.386 kg, Alprazolam Tablets – 7970 tablets, Caffeine – 5.266 kg, Crystal – 2.471 kg, Gold Dust – 8.299 kg, Rubber Stamps of 10 different types, and other packing materials. The total worth of the seized items is estimated to be around Rs. 15 Crore in the international market.
The arrested couple and the confiscated narcotics and contraband items have been handed over to Moreh Police Station for further legal proceedings. A case has been registered at the Moreh Police Station for thorough investigation, as per the report.
During the operation, a large crowd of women gathered at the location to protest against the arrest of the couple with the contraband drugs. Assam Rifles utilized non-lethal weapons to disperse the crowd, and RAF was deployed as a precautionary measure.
