Manipur: Senior cop’s residence attacked by over 200 armed miscreants in Imphal East, rescued
Northeast Desk, 28th February: In the last 24 hours, Imphal East has witnessed heightened vulnerability following sporadic firing incidents and the gathering of protesters. Security forces conducted search operations and established control in fringe areas of both hill and valley districts.
During these operations, authorities recovered a cache of weapons including pistols, rifles, mortar shells, hand grenades, and communication devices from Imphal East district.
A concerning incident occurred at the residence of Additional Superintendent of Police, Moirangthem Amit Singh, on February 27, 2024.
Approximately 200 armed miscreants in vehicles stormed his residence, vandalizing property. Responding security forces managed to thwart the attack, resulting in injuries to two individuals who were admitted to JNIMS Hospital.
During the chaos, the Additional SP and one of his escorts were abducted but later rescued and hospitalized.
Investigations into the incident are underway.
To ensure the flow of essential goods, security measures have been heightened along NH-37 and NH-02, facilitating the movement of 341 and 335 vehicles respectively.
Across Manipur, 140 checkpoints have been established, resulting in the detention of 212 individuals for various violations. Authorities remain vigilant, implementing strict security measures in vulnerable areas to safeguard against further unrest.
