Assam Artistes Shine in Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards 2022-23
Guwahati, 28th February: At least twelve esteemed artistes, including Meghranjani Medhi from Assam, are set to be honored with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards for the years 2022–23.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to his social media handle to extend his heartfelt congratulations to all the winners from Assam, acknowledging their dedication to their respective crafts.
The recipients of these esteemed awards encompass a diverse range of talents and contributions to the performing arts. Gobinda Saikia, Karuna Borah, Gunakar Dev Goswami, Tarawati Bori, and Lakshahira Das are among those being recognized for their outstanding achievements in various categories for the year 2022. Additionally, Bhaben Borbayan stands out for his exceptional contributions to Sattriya in 2023.
Furthermore, Dimpy Baishya, Mukunda Nath, and Binita Devi are slated to receive the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Purashkar for 2022, while Mukunda Saikia and Meghranjani Medhi are honored for their remarkable performances in Sattriya and Kathak, respectively, for 2023.
In addition to these accolades, Dulal Roy has been bestowed with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi fellowship (Akademi Ratna), symbolizing the highest recognition of excellence in the performing arts.
The Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, also known as the Akademi Puraskar, holds immense significance as the highest national recognition in India for performing arts. Bestowed by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, the country’s National Academy of Music, Dance, and Drama, this award celebrates individuals who exemplify the highest standards of excellence and achievements in their respective fields. Recipients are honored with a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000, a Tamrapatra, and an Angavastram, underscoring the significance of their contributions to the cultural tapestry of India.
