Assam: 2 Arrested with Huge quantities of cannabis worth more than Rs 10 lakh in Kokrajhar

Guwahati, 3rd March: In a coordinated effort, Assam Police and railway police conducted a joint raid at Gossaigaon railway station in Kokrajhar district on March 2, resulting in the seizure of substantial quantities of cannabis and the detention of two individuals.

The detained youths have been identified as Surat Jamal, hailing from Sapkata in Gossaigaon sub-division, and Farooq Abdullah, a resident of Malaguri. Acting on actionable intelligence, a police team, led by Gossaigaon Sadar police station in-charge Nidul Gogoi, collaborated with railway police personnel stationed at Gossaigaon railway station to execute the operation.

During the raid, authorities successfully intercepted an attempted smuggling operation, thwarting the efforts of the arrested individuals to transport 18 kg of cannabis from Gossaigaon to Namanimua Brahmaputra Mail car bound for Delhi. The seized contraband, with an estimated market value of approximately Rs 10 lakh, underscores the scale of the illicit activity uncovered during the operation.

Following the seizure, law enforcement agencies have initiated further investigations to unravel potential linkages and apprehend any additional individuals involved in the illicit drug trade. The successful joint operation highlights the commitment of Assam Police and railway authorities to combatting the trafficking of narcotics and safeguarding communities from the detrimental effects of drug-related activities.
