Assam CM Criticizes AIUDF Chief’s Remarks on Family Planning
Guwahati, 5th March: During a public address in Bongaigaon, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal, suggesting that those who support Ajmal might have more than two children.
The Chief Minister’s remarks came as he inaugurated Rs 150 crore worth of welfare projects in the area. Sarma has been actively addressing the issue of child marriage in the state and has intensified efforts to combat it.
Assam has faced challenges related to gender discrimination and the education of girls, including the prevalence of child marriage. Sarma emphasized the importance of supporting girl education and announced financial incentives for female students who pass various academic milestones, including Rs 10,000 for passing Class 10 exams, Rs 12,500 for passing Class 12 exams, and Rs 15,000 for passing Graduation.
