Former Governor Praises Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma as “Most Civilized Chief Minister of India”
Northeast Desk, 5th March: Former Governor of Meghalaya, RS Mooshahary, acclaimed Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma as the epitome of civility among India’s Chief Ministers. Mooshahary expressed this sentiment during the 7th Memorial Lecture on the “Role of PA Sangma for Progressive Meghalaya,” organized by the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) on the 8th death anniversary of the revered politician.
Speaking to a large audience of students and academicians, RS Mooshahary hailed Late PA Sangma as a prominent figure in the North East, a political legend, and a principled individual committed to his responsibilities.
“One of his most notable legacies is reflected in his children, who, like him, exhibit the utmost civility, with no allegations of corruption against them. Shri Conrad Sangma stands out as the most civilized Chief Minister of India,” Mooshahary proclaimed.
Mooshahary lamented that Late PA Sangma narrowly missed attaining the country’s two highest offices—the Presidency and the Prime Ministership—due to internal party dynamics. “Today, Meghalaya shines brightly due to leaders like PA Sangma,” he emphasized.
Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor of USTM, expressed gratitude to Late PA Sangma for his pivotal role in the enactment of the USTM Act in the Meghalaya Assembly in 2008. He hailed PA Sangma as a visionary dedicated to nurturing young minds through education, underscoring USTM’s commitment to his legacy.
“We are indebted to the present Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma, and his team for their unwavering support and assistance in the University’s progress,” Hoque added.
Prof GD Sharma, Vice Chancellor of USTM, concluded the event by highlighting Late PA Sangma’s profound connection with the people and his instrumental role in Meghalaya’s development and prosperity.
