Assam: Two Arrested with over 1,300 Kg ganja seized at Tripura border

Guwahati, 6th March: In a significant operation, a police team in Karimganj, Assam intercepted a truck near the state’s border with Tripura and seized a substantial quantity of ganja. Acting on a tip-off, the authorities intercepted the vehicle near the Churaibari police watch post on Tuesday.

Upon inspection, a hidden compartment within the truck revealed 439 packets containing 1,317 kilograms of suspected ganja. The truck, originating from Tripura, was carrying the illicit substance.

Two individuals, identified as Balbir Singh and Vijay Kumar Singh, were apprehended in connection with the seizure.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the operation on platform “X,” stating, “Based on reliable information, a vehicle was intercepted at Churaibari checkpoint by @karimganjpolice and 439 packets containing 1,317 kg Ganja was recovered. Two people have been apprehended in this connection and further investigation is underway. Well done @assampolice!”

An investigation has been launched to ascertain the source and destination of the suspected drugs as authorities continue their efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region.
