Mizoram CM Announces Overhaul of Healthcare Scheme
Northeast Desk, 6th March: In a significant move, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma declared the forthcoming introduction of a new healthcare scheme, set to replace the existing one. During a general discussion on the state’s budget, Lalduhoma outlined the proposed scheme, which aims to provide cashless health insurance to beneficiaries, signaling a significant shift in healthcare policy.
The current Mizoram State Health Care Scheme, established by the previous Zoramthanga-led Mizo National Front (MNF) government in 2019, will be phased out in favor of the new scheme, Lalduhoma affirmed. He expressed confidence that the new healthcare scheme, currently under development, will surpass its predecessor in terms of coverage and effectiveness.
Furthermore, Lalduhoma disclosed that the government disbursed Rs 50 crore on Tuesday to settle all outstanding healthcare bills, addressing concerns over the backlog of pending payments amounting to over Rs 45 crore. The issue of healthcare bills emerged as a prominent political topic ahead of the 2023 assembly polls, with the MNF government under former Chief Minister Zoramthanga facing criticism for its failure to settle these obligations.
The announcement of the new healthcare scheme underscores the ZPM government’s commitment to revitalizing healthcare services in Mizoram, signaling a proactive approach towards addressing the state’s healthcare needs and ensuring the well-being of its citizens.
