Assam: CLP Leader Debabrata Saikia Leaves CID Office after Over 3 Hours Grilling In Guwahati

Guwahati, 6th March: Debabrata Saikia, the leader of the Congress legislature party (CLP), concluded a three-hour interrogation session at the Crime Investigation Department (CID) office in Guwahati on Wednesday. Saikia was summoned by the Assam CID for questioning regarding a clash that occurred during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in January 2024.

Upon exiting the CID office, Saikia expressed frustration, stating, “Several programs, including BJP’s cleanliness drive, were organized on that day. We do not know the exact persons or groups who instigated the clash. We have been called here and harassed. We had peacefully conducted the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.” Saikia was accompanied to the CID office by APCC Chief Bhupen Borah and Working President Jakir Hussain Sikdar.

Meanwhile, Bhupen Borah informed the media that he would not be able to appear before the CID Police Station on March 7 as scheduled, citing important prior commitments. Bhupen Borah had been summoned for questioning regarding the damage to public property incurred during the Assam leg of the Congress’ Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

The investigation into the clash during the yatra underscores the ongoing scrutiny and legal proceedings surrounding political events in Assam, highlighting the complex dynamics between different parties and law enforcement agencies.
