Arunachal: Anti-Incumbency Sentiment Grows in Koloriang as Locals Rally Behind Aspiring Candidate
Guwahati, 6th March: In Koloriang town, situated on the Arunachal-China border, a wave of anti-incumbency sentiment is surging against sitting BJP MLA Lokam Tassar.
Thousands of residents have thrown their support behind aspiring candidate Pani Taram, hopeful for a positive change in leadership.
Often dubbed the ‘New Cherrapunjee of Northeast’ due to its diverse climate, Koloriang grapples with being one of Arunachal’s most underdeveloped constituencies.
Eager for solutions to longstanding issues, locals are advocating for a shift in leadership to address their community’s needs.
In an appeal to the BJP high command, Mayor Tamme Phassang of the Itanagar Municipal Corporation has urged for a cautious approach in distributing party tickets, emphasizing the importance of loyalty and commitment over opportunism.
Phassang’s plea comes amid speculation surrounding candidate selection for the upcoming elections, particularly with the influx of newcomers seeking ruling tickets.
A formidable contender for the BJP ticket himself, Mayor Phassang has emerged as a prominent candidate poised to contest against Techi Kaso, the recently joined BJP MLA who previously represented JDU in 2019.
Expressing concerns over the motives of newcomers, Phassang stressed the significance of prioritizing dedicated party members over those with transient intentions.
Phassang made these remarks during the inauguration ceremony of the steel girder bridge, a significant infrastructure project linking the Dapo Yarlo Solid Waste Management Treatment Plant.
