Assam: Union Minister Rameswar Teli Inaugurates ESIC Hospitals in Tinsukia
Guwahati, 8th March: Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment and Petroleum & Natural Gas, Rameswar Teli, inaugurated two ESIC (Employees’ State Insurance Corporation) Hospitals in Tinsukia, Assam, on March 7.
During the inauguration ceremony, Teli assured the expedited development of other ESI projects in Assam, emphasizing the government’s commitment to creating infrastructure for easy access to medical services for workers across the country.
The event was attended by Shri Sanjoy Kishan, Minister of Tea Tribes & Adivasi Welfare and Labour Welfare Department, Government of Assam, Suren Phukan, MLA, Digboi, Assam, along with Dr. Rajendra Kumar, DG, ESIC, and other senior officers of the Ministry of Labour & Employment, and ESIC.
The ESIS Hospital in Tinsukia, Assam, established in 1982 as a 20-bedded hospital under the State Government-run ESI Scheme, has now been taken over by ESIC. Plans are underway to upgrade it to a 100-bed ESIC Hospital with a project cost of Rs. 136 Crore. This hospital will cater to the medical needs of over 3 lakh ESI beneficiaries from areas including Dibrugarh, Majuli, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Sibasagar, and Golaghat, equipped with state-of-the-art modern medical facilities.
The Employees’ State Insurance Scheme was first implemented in Assam in 1958 and is now fully operational in 31 districts, providing social security to 2.9 lakh Insured Workers and 11 lakh beneficiaries. The administration of the ESI Scheme and disbursement of benefits in Assam are facilitated through a network of offices, hospitals, and dispensaries.
ESIC, a pioneer social security organization, provides comprehensive benefits like medical care and cash benefits for employment injury, sickness, and death. It covers about 3.43 Crores of family units of workers and provides cash benefits and medical care to over 13 crore beneficiaries across the country through its extensive infrastructure.
