Tripura: 70 companies of CAPF deployed for Lok sabha election in State, begins area dominations

Northeast Desk, 10th March: With the Lok Sabha election on the horizon, approximately 70 companies of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF), totaling over 8000 personnel, have been deployed in Tripura.

A senior Tripura Police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed to India Today NE that the announcement of election dates could be imminent. Consequently, the Tripura Police and State Government have actively lobbied the Central government and the Election Commission of India (ECI) for CAPF deployment.

“Our aim is to conduct the election peacefully, and to achieve this, we have sought the early deployment of CAPF from the Centre and ECI,” stated the senior officer.

Acknowledging their request, the authorities have dispatched the requested CAPF units. The requisition sought 70 companies of CAPF, which have been dispatched to Tripura.

The deployment comprised personnel from CRPF, CISF, BSF, and other central law enforcement agencies, arriving in two phases.

“In the first phase, starting from March 1st, approximately 50 companies arrived, followed by the remaining 20 companies in the second phase on March 7th. They have been assigned their respective duties and deployed across different areas to ensure law and order,” the official disclosed.

In addition to the CAPF units, Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel have also been deployed, collectively working towards maintaining a secure electoral environment.
