Assam CM Confident in BJP’s Prospects in Lok Sabha Polls

Guwahati, 13th March: Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, exuded confidence in the BJP’s dominance in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls following the Congress’s candidate announcements for the Nagaon and Karimganj constituencies. Addressing the recent break in the opposition alliance, Sarma attributed it to the BJP’s development wave, asserting that it has disrupted the opposition’s unity.

Initially expecting tough competition in three Lok Sabha seats, Sarma noted that weak Congress candidates in Nagaon and Karimganj have bolstered the BJP’s position. As a result, the BJP plans to contest whole-heartedly in 13 seats instead of the previously proposed 11. Sarma expressed skepticism about Congress’s chances, predicting they may not win any seats after the latest candidate announcements.

Regarding specific constituencies like Dhubri and Jorhat, Sarma assessed the BJP’s prospects based on past performance and local sentiments. Despite challenges, he emphasized the BJP’s confidence and commitment to securing electoral victories. Sarma also highlighted a shift in public priorities, noting a growing focus on development over contentious issues like the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
