President Murmu Approves Uttarakhand’s Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill

National Desk, 14th March: President Droupadi Murmu granted her approval to Uttarakhand’s Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, 2024, on March 13, according to a statement from the state government.

This approval positions Uttarakhand as the first state in India to implement the UCC. The Bill was forwarded to President Murmu by Uttarakhand Governor Gurmit Singh on February 29.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state government introduced the UCC Bill on February 6, emphasizing its significance.

A significant milestone was reached on February 7 in Uttarakhand when the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill was successfully passed in the Legislative Assembly.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami hailed the day as ‘historic,’ as the bill received a comfortable majority during a special session of the Uttarakhand assembly.
