Manipur: HSLC Examination Begins Amid General Strike
Northeast Desk, 15th March: The High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination, conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM), commenced today despite a 48-hour general strike in the state.
According to official figures, a total of 37,715 students are set to appear for the HSLC Exam across 154 examination centres statewide. Of these students, 27,281 are from private institutions, 9,119 from Government schools, and 1,315 from aided schools. The distribution of examination centres includes 63 centres in hill districts and 91 centres in the valley.
Despite concerns among parents and students due to the announcement of the general strike, the examination proceeded smoothly and effectively. Many students managed to reach their examination centres on time.
Recognizing the significance of the HSLC examination in shaping students’ careers, one parent expressed initial tension but highlighted the importance of not letting state issues disrupt their children’s education. Despite the challenges faced by Manipur, parents emphasized the need for the state government to resolve the crisis promptly to ensure students do not fall behind in their academic pursuits.
Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh extended his best wishes to all students appearing for the HSLC Examination 2024, emphasizing the Department of Education’s full support. He commended teachers for their dedication in preparing students for this crucial milestone.
