Guwahati, 15th March: Students of Abhayapuri College in Abhayapuri township, Bongaigaon district, organized a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on March 15. Led by the Abhayapuri College Students’ Union, the demonstration signifies a significant escalation in the ongoing anti-CAA movement in the region.

The protest, staged in front of Abhayapuri College, witnessed a large gathering of students expressing their opposition to the controversial CAA. Members of the student union voiced their discontent with the decision taken by the Chief Minister of Assam and Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, regarding the Act. They emphasized their determination to continue protesting against the CAA, stating, “Not just today, we will come out every day.”

The students highlighted the discriminatory nature of the bill and demanded a clear response from the Assam Chief Minister. Their protest in Abhayapuri echoes the sentiments of dissent seen across Assam and the Northeast region, where critics argue that the CAA undermines the secular ethos of the nation and threatens the rights of indigenous communities.
