Assam Police Seize 64,000 Bottles of Banned Cough Syrup in Karimganj
Guwahati, 16th March: In a successful crackdown on illegal trading, Assam Police seized more than 64,000 bottles of banned ESKUF cough syrup during a naka checking in Karimganj under Chudaibari Police Station on March 15.
Preliminary reports indicate that 64,320 bottles of cough syrup, concealed in 402 cartons, were being transported from Banaras. The police team intercepted a truck bearing registration number (PB/13/BD/5534) during naka checking along the Assam-Tripura border and seized the consignment. The estimated value of the seized cough syrup in the international market is suspected to be in crores.
A middleman, along with the truck driver, was arrested during the operation.
The truck, originating from Banaras, crossed the Assam border and entered Tripura before being intercepted. The arrested driver, identified as Ravi Sharma, is a resident of Madhya Pradesh, while the other middleman, Sushil Suklabaidya, is from Patharkandi in Karimganj.
