Assam Electoral Process: Key Dates and Preparedness Revealed by Chief Electoral Officer

Guwahati, 17th March: With the Election Code of Conduct in effect across India following the announcement of the Lok Sabha election schedule, Assam’s Chief Electoral Officer, Anurag Goel, made several crucial announcements during a press conference held in Dispur on March 17.

The Assam election will unfold in three phases to ensure a fair and orderly democratic process. The first phase of elections is slated for April 19, with the official notification set to be released on March 20. The deadline for filing nominations is March 27, followed by scrutiny on March 28 and withdrawal of nominations by March 30.

The second phase is scheduled for April 26, with key dates including notification on March 28, final nomination filing by April 4, scrutiny on April 5, and withdrawal by April 8. The third and final phase will take place on May 7, with notification on April 12, nomination filing until April 19, scrutiny on April 20, and withdrawal by April 22.

The Assam electoral process demands significant infrastructure and logistical preparation due to its scale. With 28,650 polling stations prepared across diverse geographical and demographic landscapes, the state is ready to facilitate uninterrupted voting. The electoral journey will conclude on June 4, with votes carefully counted to reveal the people’s verdict.

During the press conference, Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel emphasized the importance of upholding the integrity and sanctity of the electoral process. He highlighted the detailed planning and execution necessary to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections in Assam. As the nation eagerly anticipates the democratic exercise in Assam, stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, and voters, are urged to adhere to the Election Code of Conduct and contribute to the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
