Rajasthan: Derailment of Sabarmati-Agra Cantt Express Near Madar Railway Station In Ajmer
National Desk, 18th March: During the early hours of Monday, four coaches and the engine of the Sabarmati-Agra Cantt Express derailed near Madar railway station in Ajmer, Rajasthan. While there have been no reported fatalities, several passengers have sustained injuries in the incident.
Rescue operations are currently underway, with a team comprising Railway Protection Force, Government Railway Police, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, and other high-ranking officials working tirelessly to restore the derailed coaches and engine to normalcy.
According to passengers, the derailment occurred around 1 am, prompting immediate response from railway authorities. Shashi Kiran, the North Western Railways CPRO, confirmed the incident, stating that “Vehicle number 12548, traveling from Sabarmati to Agra, derailed near the home signal in Ajmer’s Madar today. Four general coaches and the engine of the train derailed.”
The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) also confirmed that there were no fatalities in the incident, and railway officials swiftly arrived at the accident site to provide assistance. Passengers with minor injuries were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention. Despite the derailment, many passengers remained aboard the train.
In light of the incident, railway authorities have set up a support desk at Ajmer station and shared a helpline number, 0145-2429642, to aid those affected by the derailment.
