National Desk, 19th March: As per a notification from the Union Finance Ministry, Income Tax offices across the country will be operational on the last Sunday of this month. The Ministry’s order dated March 18 mandates that all Income Tax offices in India will be open on March 29, 30, and 31, 2024, despite March 29 being a closed holiday.
The official directive stated, “The Financial Year 2023-24 concludes on 31st March, 2024, which falls on a Sunday. Additionally, 30th March, 2024, is a Saturday, and 29th March, 2024, is a closed holiday. Therefore, to facilitate the completion of pending departmental work, all Income Tax Offices throughout India shall remain open on 29th, 30th, and 31st March, 2024.”
This decision, made for administrative convenience, was issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes under the authority conferred by section 119 of the Income-tax Act, 1961.
