Jitendra Chaudhury Set to Become Leader of Opposition in Tripura Assembly
Northeast Desk, 20th March: Senior politician and CPIM MLA Jitendra Chaudhury is poised to be designated as the Leader of the Opposition in the Tripura Assembly by Speaker Biswabandhu Sen on Wednesday.
Sources within the State Assembly revealed that the Speaker has engaged in discussions with the CPIM leader regarding the vacant Leader of the Opposition position, indicating a likely appointment in the near future. This position remained vacant following the resignation of Animesh Debbarma, a member of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), who relinquished the role to assume a ministerial post in the BJP government led by Manik Saha on March 7.
Animesh Debbarma, alongside fellow TMP MLA Brishaketu Debbarma, transitioned into ministerial positions following the TMP’s decision to join the BJP-led coalition government. This move came after the TMP, under the leadership of former royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barman, entered a tripartite agreement in New Delhi, addressing the party’s demands for tribal welfare.
With Jitendra Chaudhury’s imminent appointment as Leader of the Opposition, the CPIM aims to provide strong and vocal leadership in the Tripura Assembly, ensuring robust scrutiny and accountability of the government’s actions. As political dynamics continue to evolve in Tripura, Chaudhury’s leadership will play a pivotal role in representing the interests of the opposition and advocating for the welfare of the people.
